Oakville is the main setting of the story of Variable. A peculiar, yet tight-knit community holds the town in great regard. Nothing could have gone wrong.

Locals began to disappear, some completely devioid of their memories of previous events, some began to see double. All these were isolated incidents, and strings or theories were shrugged off as pure lunacy. They couldn't say the same for the spirals and remnants similar to an exploded supernova in the sky. The town of Oakville couldn't grasp what was going on, and only hoped this would end.

Oakville Sherwyn High School is one of the local schools, and one of the locations Variable focuses on. A low end school with mild wear and tear. You can still see students around school grounds even after school hours, so much so that security need to escort them out past 8pm.

OSHS is said to have a rich history with its founders. However, recent events have really called school security and reliability into question. This was after a group of students and some faculty members who began to disappear for long periods during school hours. Surprisingly, the school does nothing about it. In fact, it is explained that the group has been selected for a screening for a critical, ground-breaking scientific discovery and that they are selected as a test audience. This is reasonable enough for the school board to give the green light since the organization offers compensation and is grounded in...relatively standard scientific practices.
But why, I must ask, should it be 5 weeks long??
